IT Leadership Time is an innovative DVD-based programme designed to help IT managers enhance their leadership outlook. The course tracks the day of two IT directors who have similar roles in two different but identical companies. It highlights the small things that make a major difference to our success.
The programme is based on extensive research carried out by IT Leaders into the characteristics of successful IT professionals. It discusses the concept of leadership opportunities – those activities that allow us to excel in our role. Guidelines are given on how to take advantage of existing leadership opportunities and how to seek out new ones.

In the video, we follow the the successes and otherwise of the two directors, Michael and Leo, played by television actor David Gillespie. Michael is a typical manager, always busy and increasingly stressed. Leo shows strong leadership skills, still busy, but focusing his energy on smart activities that deliver good results. Both have a board meeting that they need to prepare for as well as operational problems that they need to manage.

The following is a summary of the DVD video sequences.
Start of the day for Michael and Leo
Michael and Leo start their day at their respective companies. Both have some preparation to do as well as managing a key systems outage. Their different approaches yield very different outcomes.
Preparing for the board meeting
Leo & Michael have some work to do to get ready for the board room meeting this afternoon. Michael is still working to resolve a major incident. Leo meets some of the board directors prior to the meeting.
Building Networks
Networking is a key skill for successful IT professionals. Michael has an immature network which contrasts sharply with Leo who has good contacts both inside and outside the company.
The Board Meeting
The main event of the day arrives. Michael presents his project and is asked to make some modifications and re-present next month. Leo outlines his plans and secures go-ahead for an initial pilot.
Working with the team
Leo and Michael have left the board meeting and update their teams. Michael reads out his board presentation before getting busy with email. Leo presents an achievement award prior to meeting his team one-on-one.

The workbook that supports this DVD has exercises that are ideal for both individuals and technology teams to work through. The course typically takes one day to complete, but can be abridged to half a day, so that it can be used as part of a regular team meeting for example. The programme reviews 8 work sessions:
