IT Leaders: IT Management course - The IT Professional
Our customers have often asked us for an IT management course to teach key management skills required by all IT professionals. This 2-day in-house course covers four main themes:
- Consulting – working with business users
- Delivering service
- Problem solving and decision making
- Presenting technology
.
Consulting
Sometimes, the first time IT hears about a business requirement is when the solution is being presented. To enable IT to work with the users at an earlier stage requires strong influencing and consulting skills. The first of the three modules presents a fact-based approach to business consulting and as used by the top consulting firms.
Delivering Service
This module looks at how the top organizations deliver service for their users. For an IT operation to be effective, it must follow a set of structured processes, such as ITIL. However, this can have drawbacks in the way that users perceive service. Often users measure the quality of service differently to IT. We examine the components of what makes good service and how IT organizations can deliver more of what the users want.
Problem Solving and Decision-Making
Problem solving and decision-making are two of the most important skills in the IT managers toolkit, but rarely are they taught in a structured way. This module presents the leading thinking of problem solving and decision making and applies it to the information technology environment.
Presenting IT to Non-Technology Audiences
The fourth module looks at the techniques for successfully presenting technology to non-technical audiences. It looks at the structure that presentations should take and the communications skills needed to translate technical subjects into presentations with strong business impact. Delegates are video’ed and reviewed individually as part of this module.
