Day 1: IT Leadership

By way of introduction, we start with an overview of where IT managers and leaders spend their time and identify those activities that make a difference to success. In our experience, it is the following leadership skills that make the difference:

  1. Personal leadership (priorities and influencing)
  2. Strategic leadership
  3. IT team leadership
  4. Peer leadership (politics and networks)
  5. Innovation (technology) - thought leadership
  6. Business change leadership
  7. Crisis leadership
  8. Corporate leadership (governance)

We address all of them during the course.

The main session of day one is led by Dr Robina Chatham, a visiting fellow at Cranfied Business School. Delegates work through a questionnaire based on leadership research to understand their own leadership profile. We then review the range of leadership profiles, identifying the common characteristics, including strengths and weaknesses, of each one. The second part of this workshop shows how to recognize different leadership types and adopt successful influencing strategies for each one.

The final module of day one, looks at the principles of emotional intelligence and applies them to leading IT teams. We look at how the role of IT management has evolved and review the new guidelines for success.

We take a quick look at techniques to help you in choosing the right team and how to lead your team to success. Examples are brought to life with case studies and workshops.
