Day 4 (part 1): Innovation & Change Management

IT leaders need to be at the forefront of technical innovation in their organizations.

Day 4 takes delegates through an innovation process, using the leading thinking in terms of aligning the creative and innovation talents of the team to identify new ideas that will benefit the company.

We look at the 3 stages of developing and applying innovation within an organization followed by a look at several techniques for developing innovative thinking. The module is concluded with a discussion of some visioning techniques, which are then put into practice later in the day in conjunction with the change leadership work.

IT is always at the heart of business change. There is a perpetual dilemma that allows IT to be at the forefront of key change initiatives without turning them from business change programmes to IT projects. The importance of IT in the business change process is clear – for example, IT might be able to change a CRM data entry screen in an hour, but it might take three months to train the users. IT’s role is therefore to deliver the right programs at the speed of the business, making sure the outcomes are owned by the business and that the benefits are quantified as accurately as possible using robust methods.

To address this we look at both the business and the IT change process, looking at the key success factors. This work is based on extensive research and supported by the experience and knowledge of the delegates. We also present our unique research on the specific leadership role that IT professionals need to play to ensure business initiatives are successfully delivered

Day 4 also looks at some particular techniques for effective communication. The change leadership module is completed with a change journey. Delegates are asked to develop creative and innovative ideas to address problems in a range of different businesses. The change management techniques are then applied to demonstrate how these businesses would need to change and adapt to meet a final vision as described by the different break-out teams.

Day 4 (part 2): Crisis leadership

Day 4 concludes with advice on how to prepare and handle major incidents. The management techniques that allow you to perform under these most difficult of conditions include scenario planning for incident and disaster scenarios, problem solving and decision making skills to identify root causes and finally the management and status checking of the incident room during the crisis.

The final module also reviews operational performance, process effectiveness and an overview of the leading security methodology. Although many  delegates are experienced in this area, it often leads to a valuable discussion. We focus on the leadership aspects of operations, but also provide information on best practice, essential for IT professionals to be successful in running IT organizations.
