8 Great reasons to join
IT Leaders has an excellent and well-established reputation for helping senior IT professionals stay at the forefront of technical and management developments. The IT Leaders network was established 2 years ago to provide a managed environment for its members to meet and share information. Members meet regularly to listen to top presenters and share experiences. Our new on-line Network Zone helps them stay in touch in the interim.
Here are 8 great reasons to join the IT Leaders Network:
1. A strong network of good IT professional contacts
IT Leaders is run by former IT directors and CIO’s, and understands the importance of a good network of contacts. The IT Leaders Network builds strong ties through the commitment of the members and our investment in creating networking opportunities. As a member of the IT Leaders Network, you can look forward to being part of a great team, working with other professionals who you will grow to know and trust. When members join, they are put in contact with other members who will introduce them to the network. Incentives are offered to members who persuade fellow professionals to join the network.
2. Help and advice of other members and IT experts
Members can post questions on any topic relating to the world of information technology. Although our own problems may be unique in many ways, the experience and advice of others in similar situations can help enormously. Forums are available for discussing topics of common interest and have included everything from data protection to supplier verification, from leadership thinking to technology innovation. Users can create their own discussion forums and mediate responses.
The network is a trusted environment and all members have access to the contact details of the other members so they can correspond in private. IT Leaders takes steps to ensure that the forum remains a professional environment for the mutual benefit of its members.
3. A central area for sharing information and best practice
Members can share valuable documents and best practice through the central file repository, providing a rich source of white papers, articles and templates. All documents are sent to the administrator where they are added and categorised for others to refer to and download. Documents should not be company confidential or subject to copyright restrictions.
For members who are looking to do research on a particular topic, there is a wiki and a glossary of IT management information. Members can update the wiki directly or through the administrator. The wii is designed to provide a roadmap of reference sources on technology and management thinking.
4. e-learning modules on IT management
IT professionals recognize the importance of developing leadership skills and staying up to date. IT Leaders has developed a number of e-learning modules that are available free-of-charge to members. Examples include developing strategy, the ITIL recommended process for root cause analysis and leading technology teams. Most of our members already have a good knowledge of many IT and management topics. For this reason, our e-learning modules encourage participants to add in their own case studies, ensuring that our knowledge base continues to build and develop.
Courses are added regularlly. In due course third party courses will be made available to provide an independent source of IT learning materials (some of which may be chargeable).
5. Managed news information from the IT industry and RSS feeds
If you have struggled to find a good source of information technology news, the new IT Leaders Network Zone could be the answer. When we recently interviewed a number of CIOs, they all mentioned the importance of identifying the most important news items and the difficulty of sifting out thinly disguised adverts.
IT Leaders has access to many of the most important sources of information, including RSS feeds, and also looks to its members to keep it updated. We also recognize the importance of technology vendors and we provide periodic updates of the most important developments. A newsletter is sent out every quarter for those who request it.
As a light-hearted diversion, there is an area on the Network Zone where we capture humourous stories and anecdotes from the world of IT, designed to keep members smiling through systems crashes and tight deadlines. All members are invited to contribute from their own archives of experience.
6. On-line advice to help members develop and thrive in their careers
Our founding mission is to help IT professionals to develop and thrive in their careers. From our own research, we know what makes IT directors and CIO’s successful . And, as part of the network membership, we offer advice for members to help members solve specific management and career issues. One of the foundations of career success is the cultivation of a good network of strong contacts. We offer professional guidance to members in this area, and can provide access to the top IT career and recruitment specialists in the sector . As a supplement to the IT Leaders Network, we are able to offer psychometric testing and management coaching.
7. Network meetings three times per year with top presenters
The IT Leaders Network currently meets every 3 or 4 months. The format typically includes a leading management speaker in the morning and early afternoon, concluding with a round table and discussion forum. Previous presenters include David Gillespie (television actor), Farren Drury (former army colonel and leadership guru) and Dr Robina Chatham (psychologist). Previous topics include crisis simulation, networking skills, and neuro-linguistic programming.
8. Surveys and benchmarks
With such a great membership, a wealth of experience and our on-line management system, it is straight-forward for us to organize surveys and benchmarks for our members. We are planning an annual survey of all members at the end of the year, looking at technology usage, management trends and price comparisons. Participation will be optional, but clearly, the more who take part, the higher the value of the survey.
Your commitment to us
We do everything we can to encourage the building of ties between members. The network survives and grows from their participation and the sharing of information from all members . At any time, members can email us directly on network@itleaders.co.uk with information, advice, links and updates. As a minimum, all members are asked to post an up-to-date profile on the site so we know who everyone is. After an initial period, members can request additional permissions to upload information in restricted areas of the site.
